Who can apply for PIO, how long does it take and what are the documents required for PIO application?

This is 15 years visa given to the people who are foreigners now but having Indian passports earlier or whose forefather’s (previous 3 generations) are Indians. For applying the PIO card applicants have to produce original documentary proof of Indian origin like cancelled Indian passport, birth certificate, educational certificates or any other relevant documents issued by Indian government.
With the Singapore Passport mentioning the place of birth to be India the PIO cards will not be issued.
The application forms are to be submitted in duplicate along with 2 sets
of photocopies of all the relevant documents.The fees for adults are Singapore $570/- and child PIO are Singapore $285/- and time period required is five working days. Foreigners residing in Singapore can apply for PIO at this Mission. It will take 10 working days to issue PIO and there will be additional fee of S$ 20.
